Doctor No - Signet first printing (1959) - S1670

A very-good condition example of what was only the second Signet paperback (and which carried on the printing of US paperbacks after Ian Fleming became dissatisfied with Popular Library's Casino Royale in 1955 and the next three titles subsequently printed by Perma between 1956-7 ). Because Signet printed the rest of the Bond titles out of sequence, this Doctor No paperback (published in 1959), came ahead of it printing Live and Let Die - and so this title is only preceded by From Russia With Love, from a year earlier. Like all the Signet first printings, this paperback is notable for being the first time (anywhere), this title appeared in paperback form. (The UK Great Pan version of Dr No did not appear until 1960). The Signet edition is also noted for its full spelling-out of 'Doctor' (rather than 'Dr' in the UK). This book presents in very good condition - clean, bright wrappers, with only very slight surface creases (mostly on the back of the wrapper). Features a strong non-damaged spine and tight, springy binding. No loose pages. Internally the pages are particularly clean and bright (with not the usual tanning), with no markings, annotations or distractions of any sort. A trace of forward spine lean, but otherwise a very handsome copy. A superior, early first printing that is increasingly difficult to find anywhere, let alone the UK.
