Dr No - First printing of the 'Directors' series G335 Great Pan 1961

Dr No - First printing of the 'Directors' series G335 Great Pan 1961

This 4th print Pan paperback is the first (and only) Pan impression to feature what is often known as the “Directors' Series” design - books featuring new artwork (showing Dr No more prominently than Bond and Honey Rider), but more obviously showcasing a coloured band at the bottom, with an image of gun-toting Ralph Vernon-Hunt as Bond [Vernon-Hunt was the managing director of Pan books at this time.] Dr No is considered the rarest of the Directors' Series books, as it only appeared for a single printing (the 4th impression). This compares to other titles in the series (such as Moonraker, Casino Royale, and others), which had a minimum of two, and sometimes three printings in this design. This example is a rarely-found, extremely good condition copy, with little to no wear, tight binding, only a very feint crease to the spine, and mark-free (and very bright) inner pages. The back wrapper is a little marked, but overall this is a very tight, solid example, with no bent or damaged corners. Not often found this nice.
