The Spy Who Loved Me- First edition, first impression 1962
Jonathan Cape 1962 (221 pages): FINE condition book and jacket. With a first impression print run of just 29,738, this experimental (told-in-the-first-person), title bucked the trend of each book having a progressively larger print run. In fact, the print run was a little more than half of the previous year's Thunderball, making this title somewhat of a rarity to find (and find in good condition), despite it being the 10th book in the 14-book series. This book is a rare find - presenting in exceptional condition. The white page block (a good indicator of a book's overall condition), has to be seen to be believed. It's in beautiful bleach-white condition, and all of the inner pages follow-suit - showing completely clean, unmarked, and total blemish-free sheets. The jacket is vivid and clean; in particular the predominantly white back panel, which is still in amazing bright, white condition (normally this gets very dirty/grubby looking). Book is tightly-bound, square, and with boards showing sharp corners and no signs of bumps. Absolutely NO spine fade to the jacket - which shows the wood-grain illustration without any of the 'fuzziness/blur' that other sun-exposed copies tend to show. Examples are extremely hard to find in this superb condition. If nit-picking, a discrete owner's name and sticker to front red endpaper, and a small mark to the spine of the jacket (where the 'Who' lettering else). Otherwise this is a magnificent copy, in unusually crisp, fresh, and bright condition.
