Too Hot To Handle (Moonraker) First US paperback, 1956 (Perma M 3070)
Good-to-Very Good example of this scarce first-ever paperback version of Moonraker (re-named by US-based Perma as 'Too Hot To Handle) - published in 1956. Features the evocative cover illustration by Italian-born artist Louis J. Marchetti, and includes a number of textual changes (Americanizations), including changing ‘lift’ to ‘elevator’, and ‘zebra crossing’ to ‘pedestrian crossing’. Also noteable for its disctinctive red-tinting to all the edges (including top and bottom). Exact print-run number unknown, but considered low. This example presents very well, with clean, bright wrappers and sharp corners still. Mild rippling and indents to the front wrapper, with wear mostly to the spine (but not distractingly-so). First end-paper has light spotting/foxing; thereafter all pages are clean, and blemish and mark-free. Only very minor toning to pages. Internally, pages still bright and fresh. Tightly bound. No loose pages; square and honest. A much better than average example of this difficult-to-find book in the UK.
